KUALA LUMPUR, 20 JUNE, 2010: Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM) today revealed documents that prove former New Straits Times Press Bhd (NSTP) chief Datuk Seri Kalimullah Hassan funding of online news portal The Malaysian Insider.
According to JMM head, Azwanddin Hamzah, Kalimullah and Shaik Aqmal Alauddin is responsible for financing The Malaysian Insider through Efficient E-Solution Bhd, a company which is believed to have received a contract from the Ministry of Finance “by force”.
“Shaik Akmal is the managing director and Sreedhar Subramaniam is also the director of VPI International (which E-Efficient has 20% stake in) has signed a major contract from Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri (LHDN), which initially amounted to RM200 million and then increased to RM500 million” said Azwanddin in a press conference here today.
Azwanddin also said that Shaik and Sreedhar, as signatories of the contract, had used Regalia Records Management Sdn Bhd, in which VPI International has an interest in, to finance the newsportal.
“Sreedhar Subramaniam, as certified by the website itself, is the founder of the The Malaysian Insider which we often see how irresponsible they are in spreading wrong information and defaming the leadership of this country,” he added.
Azwanddin claimed that it is clear that Kalimullah, Shaik and Sreedhar had conspired to fund the news portal to spread malicious slander against the prime minister, the monarchy and religion that can threaten the harmony and unity in the country.
“We demand the Ministry of Finance to explain how VPI International could get the contract because it seems like they are using the money that they get from the government, then they use it to spread negative or false information about the government,” he added.
He also said Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcob is “obliged to explain this matter” as it was approved during his time as the Deputy Finance Minister. He must explain his relationship with Kalimullah who is, to me, a traitor to the country,” said Azwanddin.
“For us (JMM), Kalimullah is a liar, a traitor. I don’t mind if he wants to sue me, he is a traitor. The government gave them big project but they are using it to create chaos to the country. They should use it to something beneficial,” he added.
“Besides that, I think between The Malaysian Insider and Malaysiakini there are no difference. They never tell the truth, and if they ever tell the truth, it is just for the benefit of ‘certain’ people only,” said Azwanddin.
