KUALA LUMPUR: The Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM) today alleged that the financier of the Malaysian Insider news portal "had used money earned from a government contract to defame the government".

JMM president Azwanddin Hamzah alleged that Efficient E-Solution Berhad was the company which financed the operational cost of the portal.

He claimed that Efficient E-Solution also had a 20 per cent interest in VPI International Sdn Bhd which had secured an imaging and data capture scanning service contract with the Department of Inland Revenue (LHDN) for an initial RM216,090,927 that eventually rose to RM585,540,927.

Azwanddin alleged at a news conference here that Datuk Kalimullah Hassan and Shaik Aqmal Alauddin were directors of Efficient E-Solution while Shaik Aqmal and Sreedhar Subramaniam were directors of VPI International.

Azwanddin asked Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop to explain his connection with the three directors because the contract was secured when he was the Second Finance Minister.

He claimed that Shaik Aqmal and Sreedhar were the signatories of the contract with LHDN and alleged that they had used Regalia Records Management Sdn Bhd, in which VPI International had an interest, to finance Malaysian Insider mooted by Sreedhar.
